Transmart Carrefour is an Indonesian hypermarket and modern retail brand operated by PT Trans Retail Indonesia, a subsidiary of CT Corp, founded by Indonesian businessman Chairul Tanjung. Its history in Indonesia dates back to October 11, 1998, when the first Carrefour store opened in Cempaka Putih, Jakarta, introducing the French retail chain’s hypermarket concept to the Indonesian market. Following CT Corp’s acquisition of Carrefour Indonesia, which was completed in 2012, the company began transforming its retail operations under the Transmart Carrefour brand. The first Transmart Carrefour Super Center officially opened in Tangerang on June 20, 2014. The brand operates in the retail, supermarket, hypermarket, and consumer goods industries, with Chairul Tanjung serving as the key business figure behind its development in Indonesia.
Transmart Carrefour introduced an integrated shopping and lifestyle concept that combines grocery shopping, household products, electronics, fashion, dining, and family entertainment under one roof. Its stores offer a wide selection of local and international products, including fresh food, beverages, personal care items, home appliances, and everyday essentials, providing customers with a convenient one-stop shopping experience. As part of PT Trans Retail Indonesia, the business has played an important role in the development of Indonesia’s modern retail industry. In 2019, the company began transitioning its brand identity from Transmart Carrefour to simply Transmart, strengthening its position as a locally owned retail brand under CT Corp.
