Stride Token (STRD) is the native cryptocurrency and governance token of Stride, a blockchain-based liquid staking protocol founded in 2022 within the Cosmos ecosystem. The project was co-founded by Aidan Salzmann, Vishal Talasani, and Riley Edmunds, with its development primarily associated with Stride Labs. Originating in the United States, Stride was designed to improve liquidity across Proof-of-Stake (PoS) blockchain networks by allowing users to stake their digital assets while retaining the ability to trade or utilize their funds. Built using the Cosmos SDK and Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) technology, Stride operates in the cryptocurrency, blockchain technology, and decentralized finance (DeFi) sectors.
The STRD token plays an important role in the Stride ecosystem, providing holders with governance rights and opportunities to participate in network security through staking. Users can stake compatible cryptocurrencies through the platform and receive liquid staking tokens, known as stTokens, which represent their deposited assets while allowing them to remain accessible for other decentralized finance activities. STRD holders can also participate in on-chain governance decisions, including protocol upgrades, validator selection, and community fund allocation. By combining liquid staking, cross-chain interoperability, and decentralized governance, Stride aims to expand access to staking rewards and improve capital efficiency across the Cosmos blockchain ecosystem.
