Zig-Zag is a French rolling paper brand with origins dating to 1879, when brothers Maurice and Jacques Braunstein established a paper business in Paris, France. The company later developed specialized cigarette paper manufacturing, and in 1894 the Braunstein brothers introduced an innovative interleaving process that allowed rolling papers to be dispensed one sheet at a time from a booklet. This distinctive zig-zag arrangement gave the brand its name and became an important part of its identity. The brand belongs to the rolling paper, smoking accessories, and tobacco-related products industry and has developed from its French origins into an internationally recognized brand.
Zig-Zag specializes in rolling papers, pre-rolled cones, wraps, filter tips, and related rolling accessories, with products made from materials such as wood pulp, flax, and hemp. The brand is particularly associated with its interleaved rolling paper booklets and the iconic “Zig-Zag Man” or Zouave figure featured in its visual identity. Today, Zig-Zag is part of the portfolio of Republic Technologies, while its long-standing French heritage remains central to the brand’s identity and manufacturing history.
