Viu is a Hong Kong-based over-the-top (OTT) video streaming service launched in October 2015 by PCCW Media, the media and entertainment division of PCCW Limited. Developed to meet the growing demand for digital entertainment across Asia, Viu initially launched in Hong Kong before expanding into other markets, including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Janice Lee, Managing Director of PCCW Media Group and CEO of Viu, has played a leading role in the platform’s development, regional expansion, and international growth. Since its establishment, Viu has built a strong presence in the digital entertainment industry by offering convenient access to popular Asian television content through its website and mobile applications.
Viu operates in the video-on-demand, digital streaming, media, and entertainment industries, providing a broad selection of Korean dramas, Asian television series, movies, variety shows, lifestyle programs, and original productions under the Viu Original brand. The platform uses a hybrid business model that combines an advertising-supported free service with premium subscription options, allowing viewers to choose content according to their preferences and budgets. With localized subtitles and content tailored to different regional audiences, Viu has become a notable destination for fans of Korean entertainment and other Asian productions. Supported by PCCW and strategic partnerships, including its investment partnership with CANAL+, Viu continues to expand its content offerings and strengthen its position in the international streaming market.
